Movement supports your overall health
While my main focus is breathwork, I also teach movement classes. Your breath is connected to and impacts every system in your body. Movement also impacts every system in your body. Movement is a great way to build strength and support your cardiovascular or heart health. Your heart and lung health are interconnected. As your heart rate increases, your body first increases the volume of air you breathe. If your heart rate continues to go up and your metabolic needs grow, in addition to the size of your breath, the breathing frequency or pace starts to increase.
Movement enhances your posture
Movement can be a great way to open up your posture and support your breath. In order for your lungs to expand they have to have room to expand. Having your rib cage be in a supported and open position, allows for the rib cage to support your full lung capacity. Our posture impacts if our ribs can move, and then rib mobility and pliability determines if our ribs can move. Anytime we stretch and move muscles that attached to our rib cage, we support rib mobility which greatly helps with efficient breathing. These movement classes will support good posture and rib mobility which supports good breath.
Movement helps dissipate nervous energy
When we move our bodies it can be easier to settle into the body and get out of our head. If you’ve been running around and doing lots of stuff, it can be hard for your body to simple stop, relax, and focus on your breath. It can be helpful to have transition time and a transition activity to let go of nervous or doing energy, so that you can allow the body to relax and breathe. When our mind and energy are with tour body, it can be easier to practice breathwork and create changes within our breathing habits.
Move & Breathe classes
I offer MOVE & BREATHE classes where we’ll move roughly half the time and do intentional breathing half the time. In my focused breathwork classes, we’ll also do some movement as it helps so much in supporting the breath. My movement classes pull from three styles, Qigong, Yoga, and Essentrics®. All of these styles tend to be done barefoot. You don’t need any prior experience and don’t need to be in great shape. You can register for classes here.
